Community Engagement | Experience | Vision

Community Engagement
-
A strong school community is built on open communication, respect, and collaboration. Erin is committed to actively engaging with parents, school staff, and Sutton residents to ensure that every voice is heard and valued.
-
Erin's commitment to improving our schools and advocating for students is reflected in her years of community involvement. With 5 years as a parent member of the school council and regular participation in school committee public forums, she consistently demonstrates a commitment to staying informed, engaged, and collaborative in addressing school and community priorities.
-
Through her extensive volunteer work – including 11 years with the PTO’s Enrichment program (8 years as program lead) and 5 years on the PTO Board (2 years as Chairperson and 3 years as Assistant Treasurer) – she has organized and supported numerous community events to enrich our students’ educational experiences.

Experience
-
With 5 kids attending 3 Sutton schools, Erin has insights into the needs and concerns of our school community from multiple perspectives. Her extensive volunteer experience has also given her practical insight into how school decisions impact students and families.
-
As a management-side employment attorney for over 20 years, her experience with state law requirements, employer-employee relationships, and union contract negotiations match up well with the tasks of the school committee. She currently leads a corporate team, which not only provides budget experience but also highlights for her the importance of discussion and compromise in achieving shared goals.

Vision
-
Sutton may soon be faced with a difficult choice: reducing town services (including school funding) or increasing revenue. Fiscal responsibility involves both managing within the school’s budget and continuing to find opportunities for long-term growth.
-
The Sutton Public Schools have run leanly for years and critical programs will be at risk if we hit the “fiscal cliff.” Erin believes that the school committee should partner with the town and proactively explore a 5-year budget stabilization plan to address town needs.
-
To preserve the programs and opportunities students need for success beyond graduation, we must prioritize sustainable funding. Neighboring towns are facing similar financial challenges, and past cuts in Sutton have already impacted staffing, arts, music, and sports programs. Without adequate funding, we risk larger class sizes, outdated curricula, and fewer advanced placement options, ultimately compromising the quality of education. Grants alone cannot fix the problem; we need a comprehensive approach to ensure long-term stability.
